"I'm dreaming of a white rabbit, just like the ones I used to know. With fur that glistens and ears that listen to hear pellets in his bowl!" Wait, what? What do you mean that's not how the song goes? Who doesn't dream of white rabbits, especially ones as cute as me!? My name is Floyd and I am a big, active boy with an appetite to match! I am looking for a forever home that has a large cage for me, plenty of time and space for me to run around, and of course, lots of yummy food. Read more about Floyd.
2018 MCRS Calendar Fundraiser
Just in time for the holiday season and the New Year ahead, MCRS has created 2018 calendars and will be selling them at upcoming adoption events and Hoppy Hours throughout the month of December. These calendars feature several MCRS foster bunnies and Petco rabbits that were in our care during the 2017 year.
We are selling each calendar for $25 and all of the earned proceeds will benefit the rabbits in our care.
Give to the Max Day Recap
Give to the Max Day was held on November 16, and was our best year yet! The grand total for donations was $5,920. Not only was it a big year for MCRS, but statewide, more than 5,700 nonprofits and schools benefited from nearly $21 million in donations! Thanks to everyone that made a donation, shared their adoption stories, or spread the word about MCRS.
The Velveteen Rabbit By: Barb Kelley
Through my Pet Partners therapy contacts, I received a special invitation for the November 4, 2017 showing of "The Velveteen Rabbit". A dance company from California staged just one performance of "The Velveteen Rabbit" at the beautiful Northrop Auditorium. Their only request - rabbit education. I brought them better than that, as I have two Velveteen Lops which is the same breed from the book. We took all the education boards and handouts including word finds, mazes, and coloring pages for the children.
For 90 minutes before the show, every ticket holder had the opportunity to meet Lorenzo and Nimoy, ask questions about rabbit care, and take photos. The theater even provided a bunny-sitter so I could see the show!

Join Us For Photos With Santa
This month, volunteers from MCRS will be at Petco for Photos with Santa in partnership with the Petco Foundation! Please join us, and support our mission of Adoption and Education by participating in this year’s event. For a $9.95 donation, you will receive an emailed photo of your pet with Santa within minutes. Petco stores across the country were able to select an organization to benefit from the event, and Fridley Petco kindly chose us!
We hope you will join us in making this event a success. The more participants we have, the more donations we receive, and the more lives we are able to save this holiday season! Please visit our Facebook page and share our event to help us spread the word to all of the animal lovers in your life! The event is open to the public, but Petco requires all animals to be on leashes to participate. We hope to see you there!
Dates: December 2, 9 and 16 Time: 1:00 to 4:00pm Location: Fridley Petco (753 53rd Ave NE)
Ella is a sweet young dwarf who was surrendered to Animal Humane Society with significant dental issues.
Maloccclusion or rogue incisors (front teeth) is a problem seen occasionally in animals whose teeth grow continuously throughout their lives.
The course of treatment is to remove these teeth. This has very little impact on the rabbit's ability to eat. Their lips are strong and easily move the hay, greens, or pellets to the molars for chewing. Ella had her incisors removed on 11/24/17 by one of our partner vets and will be ready for adoption once she recovers. If you are interested in Ella, or would like to donate to her care, please contact us or make a donation here: https://www.razoo.com/organization/Mcrs.
Hoppy Endings and Intakes
Eight bunnies found their forever homes in November: Robert, Siyah, Charlie, Victoria
Lupen, Peter and Lilly & Bella.
Our newcomers in the month of November were: Macciato & Cappucino, Ella, Socks, Alaska, Piper, Ramona and Tootsie Pop.
There are over 1,000 homeless rabbits in the Twin Cities every year. Each of these rabbits needs a place to stay until a permanent home can be found. MCRS works with shelters to take 'overflow' and special needs rabbits that are not doing well in shelters. Often, all these rabbits need is a less stressful environment, some one-on-one attention, or even just a little more time. Providing a foster home for one of these rabbits can be a very rewarding experience and literally saves a life!
