Featured Bun - Charlie

Hi there, my name is Charlie.  I must tell you my main goal is to find a “forever home” so I am working on the positives. One of my primary goals is to always go in my litter box; working on it as this is being written. I live in a home with a dog which does not freak me out. The resident bun, who is a female, likes to sneak into the room I am in and scent everything. She thinks I am a little cutie! Read More about Charlie.
MCRS Fundraiser

Just in time for the holiday season, MCRS has started a fundraiser featuring these comfortable shirts for all the bunny lovers in your lives. MCRS rescues rabbits from all over Minnesota and sometimes even out of state. This year we have taken in many rabbits with various health problems, including Louise, Mr Pebbles, and Robert.
Add to your wardrobe and support these bundles of floof this season! Order your shirt here!

MCRS will also be selling 2017 calendars starting in November! Keep an eye out for these in the near future!
Give to the Max Day 2017

Please join us on November 16, 2017, for Give to the Max Day to support the MCRS Adoption and Education programs.

Your donation on Give to the Max Day may help us receive an additional donation of $1,000. How?
On November 16, every gift made on GiveMN.org will be entered into an hourly drawing for a $1,000 GiveMN Golden Ticket to be awarded to a nonprofit organization. Your gift of $10 or more could instantly turn into an extra $1,000!

Here’s the really exciting part: One donation made on GiveMN.org during the Give to the Max campaign will be randomly selected to receive a $10,000 Super-Sized GiveMN Golden Ticket! The more gifts we generate on GiveMN.org during Give to the Max Day, the more our chances increase to receive that additional $10,000 donation. Imagine what we could do with $10,000!

This year’s goal is to raise $6000, and you can help us reach it! We’ll be sharing more event details in November, so keep an eye on our social media posts and emails.
Hare Care

Have you ever wondered how all that equipment at Golden Valley gets set up and taken down for agility and Hoppy Hour?  Have you wondered how it all gets repaired and maintained?  Did you notice the clean sweet smelling mats?
Meet the team of dedicated volunteers who are there on Saturday afternoon before every Hoppy Hour.  It takes 2-3 hours to  set it all up and another 2-3 hours to clean everything and get it put away when Hoppy Hour is over - every time.  We have the use of 1/2 of the closet at the front of the auditorium. It is an engineering feat to get everything in it's place.

Then there is mat wash. 2 power washers. 2 carpet shampooers. Gallons of vinegar and a great fun time. They were all laid out on the lawn to dry which takes several days. Then rain was predicted so they were moved into the garage and put back outside the next day.

But don't they look nice!!

Thank you Shannon, Meghan, Julie, Lou, Tim, Marie, and Theo!
MCRS awarded $1000 grant

We are delighted to announce that MCRS was again selected for a grant award from the Rudolf E. Wilhelm Fund. This grant will provide support for rabbit rescue efforts, as recommended to the Foundation by Mark Wilhelm.

This award will aid us in the care of our medical-needs foster bunnies, and supports our mission for Adoption and Education. Dr. Wilhelm's generosity is truly appreciated by the Board and Volunteers of MCRS!
Happy Tails

We decided to adopt through MCRS because we felt it prepared us to take care of a pet rabbit and gave us the facts, instead of letting us adopt on the spot. The volunteers really wanted to get to know us and our lives, which showed us that they really care about the rabbits and their wellbeing. We both appreciated that.
We attended the Bunny Basics class and learned all about what taking care of a pet rabbit entails. The volunteers there were very helpful in answering any questions we had. We really liked that they actually had a rabbit there so that we could experience what being around a rabbit would be like. We didn’t have one specific rabbit that we wanted and were open to different breeds. Personality was very important to us, more so than what the rabbit looked like.

On a weekend, we came to the adoption event and spent some time with a few different rabbits, finally deciding on Teddy because he was fairly independent, yet playful, and very investigative. We were also moved by his story of being trapped in horrible conditions and felt like he deserved a good, peaceful life.

Once we adopted Teddy he got used to living with us fairly quickly, exploring his room and our living room. He loves to hop in between the rooms and then plop down and lay near us while we watch TV or read. He likes to chew at blankets and kneed them a lot, which is funny to watch. We really enjoy spending time with him especially petting him and watch as he slowly falls asleep.

Thank you MCRS and everyone involved in this process!

Hoppy Endings and Intakes

Open Volunteer Positions
Foster Homes

There are over 1000 homeless rabbits in the Twin Cities every year. Each of these rabbits needs a place to stay until a permanent home can be found. MCRS works with shelters to take 'overflow' and special needs rabbits that are not doing well in shelters. Often, all these rabbits need is a less stressful environment, some one-on-one attention, or even just a little more time. Providing a foster home for one of these rabbits can be a very rewarding experience and literally saves a life!

Hoppy Hour Bouncers

Location: Urban Tails in Minneapolis
Date/Time: Hoppy Hours at Urban tails occur every other Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Description: Support the MCRS Hoppy Hour by monitoring Rabbits that are participating. Bouncers make sure that everyone (human and Bun) has a fun and safe time at Hoppy Hour by:
-Setting up the Hoppy Hour space (arrive 15 minutes early)
-Cleaning up after the rabbits as they play
-Watching the Rabbits for any stressed or inappropriate behavior (and giving Rabbits breaks with their human when needed)
-Cleaning up the Hoppy Hour Space (Takes approximately 20 - 30 minutes)

Hoppy Hour Volunteers can let their Bunnies play with the $3 fee waived!
Some Rabbit experience is helpful in this role, but any volunteers will be trained.

Hoppy Hour supports the MCRS mission through raising funds for our work. Volunteers are vital for a fun and safe Hoppy Hour that gives rabbits an opportunity for enrichment and owners a chance to connect!
