Bowling for Bunnies

Twin Cities Pride

PrideBy: Barb Kelley

June 24-25 was the biggest festival of our year, Twin Cities Pride. They say about 100,000 people move through Loring Park in those two days, and I believe every one of them was touched by a rabbit. Pride is the greatest educational opportunity we have. We can showcase rabbits as family members - as intelligent, kind, and engaged pets.

PrideThe agility course was complex and gave the rabbits the ability to really show their skills. From 10AM to 6PM our dedicated volunteers talked spay/neuter, living indoors, adoption, and just how to love a rabbit to a highly receptive crowd.

Thank you so much everyone Julie and Lou, Shannon, Jeremiah, Joslyn, Brenda, Kirsten, Schulte's. April and her family, Amy, Amanda, Gretchen, Lemmy and Courtney, and Tim M. And most especially the 15-20 rabbits who were there each day.

This is only possible because of you.

Two Exciting Volunteer Positions With MCRS

Hoppy Hour Bouncers

Location: South Saint Paul
Date/Time: We ask that volunteers commit to two Hoppy Hours per month. South Saint Paul Hoppy Hours occur every other Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and every other Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Description: Support the MCRS South Saint Paul Hoppy Hour by monitoring Rabbits that are participating. Bouncers make sure that everyone (human and Bun) has a fun and safe time at Hoppy Hour by:

  • Setting up the Hoppy Hour space (arrive 15 minutes early)
  • Cleaning up after the rabbits as they play
  • Watching the Rabbits for any stressed or inappropriate behavior (and giving Rabbits breaks with their human when needed)
  • Cleaning up the Hoppy Hour Space (Takes approximately 20 - 30 minutes)

Hoppy Hour Volunteers can let their Bunnies play with the $3 fee waived!

Some Rabbit experience is helpful in this role, but any volunteers will be trained.

Hoppy Hour supports the MCRS mission through raising funds for our work. Volunteers are vital for a fun and safe Hoppy Hour that gives rabbits an opportunity for enrichment and owners a chance to connect!

Foster Homes

There are over 1000 homeless rabbits in the Twin Cities every year. Each of these rabbits needs a place to stay until a permanent home can be found. MCRS works with shelters to take 'overflow' and special needs rabbits that are not doing well in shelters. Often, all these rabbits need is a less stressful environment, some one-on-one attention, or even just a little more time. Providing a foster home for one of these rabbits can be a very rewarding experience and literally saves a life!

If you are interested or would like more information about either of these opportunities contact us at info@mncompanionrabbit.org.
