Two Exciting Volunteer Positions With MCRS

Hoppy Hour Bouncers

Location: South Saint Paul
Date/Time: We ask that volunteers commit to two Hoppy Hours per month. South Saint Paul Hoppy Hours occur every other Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and every other Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Description: Support the MCRS South Saint Paul Hoppy Hour by monitoring Rabbits that are participating. Bouncers make sure that everyone (human and Bun) has a fun and safe time at Hoppy Hour by:

  • Setting up the Hoppy Hour space (arrive 15 minutes early)
  • Cleaning up after the rabbits as they play
  • Watching the Rabbits for any stressed or inappropriate behavior (and giving Rabbits breaks with their human when needed)
  • Cleaning up the Hoppy Hour Space (Takes approximately 20 - 30 minutes)

Hoppy Hour Volunteers can let their Bunnies play with the $3 fee waived!

Some Rabbit experience is helpful in this role, but any volunteers will be trained.

Hoppy Hour supports the MCRS mission through raising funds for our work. Volunteers are vital for a fun and safe Hoppy Hour that gives rabbits an opportunity for enrichment and owners a chance to connect!

Foster Homes

There are over 1000 homeless rabbits in the Twin Cities every year. Each of these rabbits needs a place to stay until a permanent home can be found. MCRS works with shelters to take 'overflow' and special needs rabbits that are not doing well in shelters. Often, all these rabbits need is a less stressful environment, some one-on-one attention, or even just a little more time. Providing a foster home for one of these rabbits can be a very rewarding experience and literally saves a life!

If you are interested or would like more information about either of these opportunities contact us at info@mncompanionrabbit.org.

Norman

NormanNorman and I are doing exceptionally well. He had almost no transition period at all--we brought him home, put him in his litter box in his pen (which is about 5' x 5'), and he went right to grooming himself and flopping over. It seems he knows he's in his forever home!

He has had very few "accidents" (I use quotes because the rest of his litter box habits lead me to believe they aren't actually accidents), all of which were on my bed. I think he was letting me know that it's his bed, too. After washing the sheets, he seems content with his territory and we haven't had a problem since (this happened within the first two or three days).

My dad, who was very apprehensive about this whole thing, has fallen in love with him just like my mom and I have. He is bonding very strongly especially with me and has started giving me bunny kisses on my nose and lips. It just makes my heart melt! He loves to snuggle and so do I. We are a very good pair.

Overall, this adoption process has been absolutely perfect and I am so happy with my new companion. I didn't know a whole lot about rabbits other than what I'd researched for months leading up to the adoption event, but I am just loving the learning process. He has such a sweet and silly personality that I've never had in my own pet before. I love all his ways of communicating, from licking and purring to punching me with his scratchers when I'm in the way of his racing route. He is just fabulous in every way, and we fit very well together.
