Give to the Max Day

Give to the max dayMinnesota is home to Give to the Max Day, a 24-hour online give-a-thon. On November 13th, MCRS and other nonprofits will benefit during this record-breaking fundraising event. Last year, MCRS raised over $2000 for the care of our adoptable rabbits. This year, our goal is to raise $2500 to continue our mission of education and adoption!

Your donation on Give to the Max Day also may help us receive an additional donation of $1,000. How? On November 13, every gift made on GiveMN.org will be entered into an hourly drawing for a $1,000 GiveMN Golden Ticket to be awarded to a nonprofit organization. That adds up to 24 opportunities for you to help us receive an extra $1,000! Here's the really exciting part: At the end of Give to the Max Day, one donation made on GiveMN.org will be randomly selected to receive a $10,000 Super-Sized GiveMN Golden Ticket.

Check the MCRS Facebook page and your email inbox for updates about how to help MCRS during Give to the Max Day on November 13th! You can also pre-schedule your donation now!

Obesity in Rabbits

Obesity and weight problems are becoming more common in pet rabbits. This is primarily due to improper diet and too little exercise. Many of the health problems associated with obesity can be very serious, chronic, and ultimately fatal. Learn more about these health problems so you can better understand the importance of good nutrition and exercise.

How to Help an Overweight Pet Rabbit

It's no secret to a lot of us that rabbits make wonderful pets, but if you've never had a rabbit before and you are thinking about getting one knowing more about them as pets and what to expect is important. Each month we will be sharing a video that features Actress Amy Sedaris, who is a loving mom to her own pet bunny, and rabbit expert Mary E. Cotter, Ed.D., LVT from the House Rabbit Society.

In this Month's video learn how to help an overweight pet rabbit.

Rabbit Socializer - Burnsville

MCRS places adoptable rabbits at several Twin Cities Petco stores and has a team of socialization volunteers dedicated to the resident bunny of each store. We currently are looking for more Rabbit Socializers for our Burnsville Petco program. As a Rabbit Socialization volunteer you visit the bunny on the same day each week, you can go in any time during Petco's store hours. It's about a 1-2 hour visit each week. During your visit you will take the buns out of the hexi and play with them on the floor in an exercise pen. You write notes on their behavior, personalities, and socialize the buns. We like to note if they react to people strolling by with animals, loud noises, health issues ,how they play, w here they like to be petted, what treats they like, etc.

We require at least a 6-month commitment for this position. Additionally all Petco volunteers must be 18 or older. If you are interested in helping out please hop on over to Volunteer Match to apply.

Volunteers are not just important to MCRS, they literally are MCRS. Volunteers do everything that needs to be done within the organization from picking up the mail to caring for homeless rabbits to keeping financial records to scooping litter boxes.

Interested in Volunteering? See all of our available volunteer positions on our website.

All media, please contact Shelley Chirhart, MCRS Public Relations & Marketing Manager at info@mncompanionrabbit.org or 651-768-9755.
