There's so many exciting things happening at MCRS! Where do we even start?!

MCRS unveiled a brand new website! Hop on over to mncompanionrabbit.org to check it out and see all of the great and up to date information.
new MCRS site

MCRS is also officially now on twitter! You can follow us @MNRabbitSociety here: twitter.com/MNRabbitSociety

MCRS started the Rabbit Revolution. Sleepy Cat, Grumpy Cat, Snoopy the Cat. We get it. Cats are cute, but those mew-tants have lived their nine lives out in the Internet spotlight. Now it’s time for something cuter, smarter and bouncier to take the throne. It’s time for a Rabbit Revolution!

In an effort to make bunnies as famous as cats online, MCRS is having a voting contest on our new website. Meet the contestants.

Through October 6th, people who love rabbits or who are suffering from cat video fatigue can visit our website to vote on the rabbit they would like to see lead the charge versus Grumpy Cat, Lil Bub, Maru and their army of feline friends. Each bunny candidate has a profile on the site that includes their personality traits, cat rival, least favorite cat video, and why they should win.

Help get the word out about what great companions rabbits are and share with your friends on facebook!

Have you ever wondered...What is Hoppy Hour? or What's all the fuss about? Watch the video.

hare care

A special kudos to one of our own. Many of you know Jennifer Smith, her son, Gunnar, and their herd of therapy and agility rabbits. Several of theses special rabbits have had horrific events in their lives and with the love and care of Jennifer and Gunnar have blossomed into healthy happy rabbits giving back in the community.

They are THE most enthusiastic promoters of rabbits as companions and family members. They have spent their summer educating 4th and 5th graders at the Animal Humane Society day camps. Every week they also visit senior residences and are registered with the READ program to help children struggling with their reading.

Recently Jennifer started a Facebook page called Bunny Besties. It is a celebration of the work our wonderful rabbits and their families are doing bringing smiles to people who need help. Her site has reached people all over the world delivering the message of love in furry bodies. Jennifer wrote in an email "Bunny Besties is all of us! It is our commitment to compassion and kindness."

To top off Jennifer and Gunnar's amazing summer their rabbits Lulu and Teddy Graham are featured in the Huffington Post Good News Today! Please check out their story.

A quote from the Pet Partners representative tells it all; Nationally there are 97 registered Pet Partners therapy rabbits. More than 1/3 of them are MCRS bunnies. We do make a difference and Jennifer is out to share it with the world.

MCRS Rabbit Pioneers

Hoppy Hour
Minnesota is know worldwide for it's innovative culture. 3M for post-it notes; Mayo Clinic for medical research; MCRS for rabbit education and Hoppy Hour.

Those of us who work at Hoppy Hour understand that it is much more than rabbit play time. It is an opportunity to educate rabbit owners on health care, diet, nail trimming, and behavior. It is an opportunity to assist with dating and bonding and provide a kind ear when choices are difficult. It is an opportunity to welcome questions from the public and celebrate more converts to the love of rabbits.

Several months ago MCRS was approached by Patricia Mulcahy, the president of the San Diego House Rabbit Society, for guidelines and assistance. After several emails she felt comfortable starting her own Hoppy Hour program.

Our education is succeeding. Another community has opened the door to better living for rabbits. Check out one of their fun videos from the event.

TinselBy: Emily Allgeyer

Tinsel Diggory Allgeyer lived a long and happy life of snuggling and eating. He died on August first at the age of at least twelve. I adopted Tinsel and his best friend Choo Choo from the old Minnesota Valley Humane Society in 2005. He liked people and pettings more than his sister did, and she went on adventures for him. Every morning at 7:30, I woke up with Tinsel jumping on my legs until I gave him a treat. He was always the first bunny to notice when I was opening a bag of craisins. He loved snuggling with Choo Choo and, eventually, Snowball. Tinsel loved petting, grooming, and relaxing. He liked to jump up onto the tops of things, and he liked cleaning his sister's face He passed peacefully after a short illness. He is survived by Choo Choo, Snowball, and Guinness, whom he wasn't quite friends with yet. We all miss him so much, but we know he is safe and happy in bunny heaven until we can see him again.

Volunteers are not just important to MCRS, they literally are MCRS. Volunteers do everything that needs to be done within the organization from picking up the mail to caring for homeless rabbits to keeping financial records to scooping litter boxes.

Interested in Volunteering? See all of our available volunteer positions on our website.

Fun facts! Did you know...?

Rabbits are affectionate social animals that enjoy the compant of other rabbits. They will perform allogrooming where two individuals will simultaneously groom each other.
